Tell him how much God loves him. Tell him that God took great pleasure and love in creating him. He calls him His masterpiece; the apple of His eye. He is well pleased with Him. Remind Tom that as humans we think that God is to blame for our hurt, but free will leads people to hurt each other, not God. We make mistakes through bad choices and the enemies attacks. Nothing we do, no mistakes we make will ever separate us from God's love. Tell Tom to turn to God and not run from Him.
